MJSI Water-Saving Standout

November 21, 2009

Gain major water savings with an inexpensive retrofit by installing the HydroRight Dual Flush Converter from MJSI in any standard toilet. The device features a two-button flush valve that lets you set the amount of water used for two types of flushes. No tools are required for installation: Simply remove the old flapper and handle, tighten the converter onto the overflow tube and add the flush button. And because the dome gasket sits in the drain hole rather than a flapper, there’s no pesky chain to deal with. HydroRight™ Dual Flush Converter (HYR 270) The HydroRight quickly and easily converts your toilet into a water-saving dual flush toilet. Quick flush for liquids and paper. Full flush for solids. The Right Flush Every Time • Uses up to 70% LESS WATER with liquids and paper • Installs without tools in 5-10 minutes • Tank removal not required • Works with all standard flush valves • Eliminates flapper problems • Invented by a plumber Installation is as easy as 1,2,3: • Remove old flapper and handle • Slide Dual Flush down overflow tube (inside your tank) and tighten • Replace handle with button and set Quick Flush amount. Toilet efficiency experts at MJSI introduced the HydroRight dual flush converter at the National Hardware Show where it won both the Popular Mechanics’ Editor’s Choice Award and the Retailers’ Choice Award. Proven to reduce water usage by up to 70% with for liquids and paper, the HydroRight is the only dual flush converter that requires no tank removal, no tools and can be installed in less than ten minutes. The HydroRight works with all standard flush valves and was designed to provide an inexpensive, hassle-free way to save water. In addition, because the HydroRight’s dome gasket sits in the drain hole rather than a flapper, problems associated with flappers like leaks and broken or tangled chains, are eliminated. The USEPA estimates that 20% of all toilets leak up to 200 gallons of water a day, mostly because of faulty flappers. The HydroRight converter includes a two button handle that gives users the ability to select the amount of water being used during the flush- the Quick Flush for liquids and paper and the Full Flush for solids. Adjusting the water flow for both flush settings is quickly and easily done inside the tank. The Retailers’ Choice Award is determined by a group of retailers who search the thousands of new products at the show for the ones they think are the most innovative, have high consumer appeal and will sell well at retail. It is sponsored by Hardware Retailing magazine. The Popular Mechanics Editor’s Choice Award is determined by of the magazine’s editors and is awarded to the top products at each year’s National Hardware Show based upon new design and innovation.

CA Water Utility Celebrates ‘No Drugs Down The Drain’ Week

November 13, 2009

caWest coast water district California American Water has designated the week of Nov. 9, 2009, as “No Drugs Down the Drain Week” for its Los Angeles service area as part of a national campaign sponsored by public and private agencies to reduce pharmaceutical pollution in source water supplies. Items like aspirin, prescription drugs and other medications should never be thrown down the drain or toilet, the utility says. They can often seep into the ground and find their way back into the water supply. According to California American Water’s Los Angeles district manager Garry Hofer, water utilities treat drinking water to ensure it meets or exceeds USEPA standards. “But the best water treatment is to prevent water pollution at the source,” says Hofer. “Environmental stewardship can begin right at home through how we use and dispose of old medicines as well as other hazardous items such as used motor oil and paint.”  California American Water’s Los Angeles County residents are encouraged to contact the County of Los Angeles’ Department of Public Works at 888/253-2652 or visit www.888cleanla.com to find out where they can drop off expired or unwanted pharmaceuticals and other household items free of charge.
