KOHLER Introduces VibrAcoustic Sound Therapy Bath Tub

May 16, 2012

Adding to the wave of its recent technology innovations, Kohler Co., a global leader in kitchen and bath design, introduces VibrAcoustic® technology on all nine models of the Underscore bath tub line. Vibroacoustic is a technology-based sound therapy defined as hearing and feeling sound vibrations through the body. Focused on complete body relaxation, the new Underscore VibrAcoustic baths are engineered to ease tension and stress. Additionally, the quality of the sound system is so good that it can be used as a stand-alone audio solution for the entire bathroom. The bather can stream music and podcasts through the bath from a mobile device via hardwire connection or wirelessly with a Bluetooth®* receiver. The VibrAcoustic technology is controlled by an intuitive full-color touch screen user interface. “KOHLER VibrAcoustic technology truly is a multi-dimensional experience. It’s like going to a rock concert – you can hear and feel the music and vibrations throughout your body,” says Ann Roever, business director for Kohler bathing products. “With four original compositions to choose from and the ability to play your own music, it’s an experience that can fit any mood –relax and unwind or rev up for a busy day or fun night out.” The four experiences are original compositions that integrate music, vibration and lighting in order to encourage the bather’s breathing rate to align with the beats or chord structures. The bather cannot help but drift into deep relaxation. The VibrAcoustic Experience – Four VibrAcoustic experiences envelop the bather in a multi-sensory environment. These original compositions were created in collaboration with a renowned sound therapist and are choreographed uniquely for this bath to optimize the vibroacoustic effect, in which the body is led into a state of complete relaxation. In addition, two massaging beat experiences add even more physical vibration that can be adjusted to the desired level of intensity to personalize the bathing experience. Six transducers producing music/vibrations are strategically placed surrounding the bath allowing the bather to not only hear but also feel the music streaming in from one of the four preset VibrAcoustic experiences. The transducers are located both below the water for the vibration experience and above the water for the audio. A newly designed touch screen user interface allows bathers full control of their experience and the option of listening to a favorite play list from their mobile device, internet radio or home computer by simply plugging your device into the amplifier or streaming wirelessly with your Bluetooth®* receiver. Chromatherapy lighting is synchronized with the four preset VibrAcoustic experiences and will also align itself with the rhythm of outside music. The four lights in the bath cycle through eight different colors and myriad color combinations and patterns. A color dial even allows bathers to choose a particular hue of each color. Underscore Bath Design. The acrylic Underscore bath is available in nine sizes ranging from 60-by-30 inches to 72-by-42 inches, including a 48-by-48-inch cube-shaped model, and is available in five colors with both drop-in and undermount installation to ensure a natural fit with other design elements in the bathroom. The Underscore baths’ simple, crisp design lines perfectly complement granite, stone or tile. Underscore baths feature a slotted overflow that creates a deeper-than-normal soaking experience. In comparison to overflow drains found on traditional baths that are round and positioned lower, limiting the water depth, the large, slotted overflow drain positioned near the Underscore bath rim maximizes the level of water in the bath for a true soaking experience.  About Kohler Co. – Founded in 1873 and headquartered in Kohler, Wis., Kohler Co. is one of America’s oldest and largest privately held companies. September 30, 2011

Kohler Co. Supports Collegiate Teams with Water-Efficient Plumbing Products for 2011 Solar Decathlon Competition. Kohler Co., a global leader in kitchen and bath design, technology and water efficiency, is pleased to announce that it has partnered with several collegiate teams competing in the fifth Solar Decathlon, September 23 – October 2 at the National Mall’s West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C., by providing these teams with water-efficient KOHLER and STERLING plumbing products. “It’s encouraging that our young engineers, architects, and skilled trades are being educated this way, as they will be designing and constructing the homes, offices, and other buildings we’ll need in the coming years.” College students from across the globe representing 20 universities have gathered to develop the most solar energy-efficient house in the competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. The Solar Decathlon shows consumers how to save money and energy with affordable clean energy products that are available today. The Solar Decathlon also provides participating students with hands-on experience and unique training that prepares them to enter our nation’s clean energy workforce.  “I am impressed with the students’ expertise on all aspects of green building – water efficiency, indoor air quality, materials, local sourcing and waste minimization – in addition to the energy efficiency focus of the contest,” said Rob Zimmerman, manager-engineering, sustainability and water conservation for Kohler.  Among the collegiate teams competing for the Solar Decathlon which specified water-efficient plumbing products from Kohler is Purdue University, Zimmerman’s alma mater. “It’s encouraging that our young engineers, architects, and skilled trades are being educated this way, as they will be designing and constructing the homes, offices, and other buildings we’ll need in the coming years.”  The competing teams selected those KOHLER and STERLING products designed to be water efficient and perform to expectations, including EPA WaterSense-listed toilets (Dual Flush and 1.28-gallon), showerheads and bathroom faucets, as well as commercial plumbing products including Touchless KOHLER faucets with the company’s award-winning Hybrid Energy System.  Kohler provided fixtures and faucets to Purdue and a handful of other teams such as Team Florida (University of Florida, South Florida, Central Florida and Florida State); Team Massachusetts (Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell); The Ohio State University; University of Illinois; Middlebury College; and Parsons The New School for Design and Stevens Institute of Technology. Kohler has been involved in the biennial Solar Decathlon since its inception in 2002.  The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.  The 2011 Solar Decathlon is open free to the public September 23 through October 2, (10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on weekdays, 10 am-5:30 pm on weekends). Fast Company Recognizes KOHLER as Iconic Brand in U.S. Design

September 27, 2011

Kohler Company has been tabbed as one of 30 most influential organizations in corporate America when it comes to design. Kohler Co., a global leader in kitchen and bath design and technology, received high design praise in Fast Company magazine’s recent 2011 design issue. The United States of Design feature, which highlights the movers and shakers bringing American design to the global forefront, says aesthetes who once dismissed American design as second-rate in comparison to European counterparts are now taking note of what’s happening on the other side of the pond.  Kohler Co., noted in the article for its “fixtures that make the loo worth the visit,” was the only plumbing manufacturer recognized among Fast Company’s list of 30 design strongholds in corporate America and was one of 11 brands to earn a spot in the Icon category. Others icons include Apple, Nike, Starbucks, and OXO; additional brands were categorized as sleepers (The Container Store, McDonald’s) or newcomers (Tesla, Gilt Group). “This is a terrific acknowledgement of our deep commitment to staying on the leading edge of design and technology in product and process,” says Kohler’s president and chief operating officer David Kohler. “Credit goes to all our associates who drive innovation every day and to my father Herb Kohler, our Chairman, for keeping this foremost in our minds over the last five decades.” Kohler’s guiding principles of living on the leading edge of design innovation has been underscored over the years by many ground-breaking product launches, such as the Karbon articulating kitchen faucet or the Numi toilet—a business approach applied in the Kitchen and Bath Group and throughout the diverse company’s other divisions focused on the furniture, hospitality and power industries. “THE BOLD LOOK OF KOHLER” was originally conceived as an advertising campaign for the Kohler plumbing business in 1967 and remains a well-known tagline as a nod to Kohler’s longstanding history, commitment and vision for developing products on the leading edge of design and technology. About Kohler Co. – Founded in 1873 and headquartered in Kohler, Wis., Kohler Co. is one of America’s oldest and largest privately held companies. Numi is a celebration of the most technologically inspired experience in personal convenience. Adopting legendary architect Mies van der Rohe’s “Less is more” mantra, the Kohler design team took a minimalist approach to Numi’s creation, arranging complex technological functions internally within a limited space, all while presenting extreme simplicity externally. The result: a figment of beauty and geometry with high attention to detail, featuring a series of intersecting planes. Following Kohler’s successful 2005 launch of the Purist Hatbox toilet, whose tankless silhouette redefined the bathroom category, Numi breaks the mold with its entirely new visual and technical language. Its design reflects a furniture aesthetic, creating an original toilet profile. A distinctive, pared-down vision blended with personal technology will impress the most technologically-savvy user while the interface provides an easy-to-use experience for just about any member of the family. “It’s truly an innovative product that makes a bold design statement,” says Jim Lewis, Kohler’s Vice President of Marketing. “We envisioned a toilet that creates a category in a caliber of its own. Kohler Co. Receives Inaugural Excellence Award from EPA WaterSense Program for Strategic Collaboration

October 8, 2010

Kohler Co. Receives Inaugural Excellence Award from EPA WaterSense Program for Strategic Collaboration. Save Water America campaign introduces water-efficient plumbing products to thousands. Kohler Co., the 2008 and 2009 WaterSense Partner of the Year, was chosen by the Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program as an inaugural Excellence Award recipient for strategic collaboration. “Kohler has a large stake in the availability of clean, safe water. And Kohler understands the importance to educate homeowners about reducing water usage.” “Kohler is honored to be recognized by the EPA once again, and this time for our collaborative efforts on the serious issue of water conservation,” said Rob Zimmerman, water conservation and sustainability manager for Kohler Co. “Kohler has a large stake in the availability of clean, safe water. And Kohler understands the importance to educate homeowners about reducing water usage.”  After winning back-to-back WaterSense Partner of the Year awards in 2008 and 2009, Kohler continues to lead the industry with its innovative products and programs that bring water-saving solutions directly to plumbers, designers, specifiers and homeowners. The 2010 Excellence Award was given to Kohler for its efforts to bring together industry leaders and bolster the WaterSense program. Kohler hosted 49 Save Water America educational and promotional events across the United States in 2009, continuing its leadership in the water-efficiency field. Collaborating with national retailers, its extensive distribution network and an interactive Web site – SaveWaterAmerica.com – Kohler reached out to tens of thousands of consumers and trained more than 8,000 professionals on water efficiency. “Save Water America is just one example of our strategic collaboration with EPA and was a multi-faceted initiative involving touch points with consumers and trade alike in delivering key messages about water conservation,” added Zimmerman. Kohler completely redesigned its retail packaging, where the majority of consumers purchase their plumbing products, namely toilets, bringing increased importance to the WaterSense logo for qualifying products. Water-saving benefits were also displayed prominently on product packaging and displays so consumers could easily compare toilets in the stores. In showrooms nationwide, Kohler placed more than 1,000 WaterSense toilets on display, educating homeowners about the program with messaging about the water-saving benefits of these products. Many of these displays were self-contained, plumbed units, meaning people could actually flush the toilets and “test” the performance. Additionally, Kohler collaborated with EPA in driving a national publicity campaign on WaterSense, including participation in EPA’s “Fix-A-Leak” week, and “We’re For Water” events, as well as leveraging national spokesperson and three-time Master Plumber Ed Del Grande with media and at events.  WaterSense, the EPA’s voluntary public-private partnership program, seeks to protect the future of the nation’s water supply by promoting water efficiency and enhancing the market for water-efficient products, programs and practices. Plumbing fixtures and faucets that qualify for the WaterSense label assure consumers of actual water savings and strict performance standards. Founded in 1873 and headquartered in Kohler, Wis., Kohler Co. is one of America’s oldest and largest privately held companies. Kohler is a global leader in the manufacture of kitchen and bath products, engines and power generation systems, cabinetry, tile and home interiors, and an international host to award-winning hospitality and world-class golf destinations.

KOHLER ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF NATIONAL COLLEGIATE CAMPAIGN

September 11, 2010

Kohler announces winners of National Collegiate Campaign. Public Relations Student Society of America and American Marketing Association student chapters competed to develop a water conservation campaign to educate homeowners. Kohler Co., 2008 and 2009 WaterSense Partner of the Year, recently announced the winners of its national collegiate competition, for which student chapters competed to develop a water conservation educational campaign to help homeowners learn how to save water. The students were tasked with developing a local initiative to promote SaveWaterAmerica – a viral online campaign dedicated to educate homeowners how easy it is to save water. More than 700 Habitat for Humanity homes have been built with KOHLER water-saving products as a result of this campaign, and the company has pledged to donate a total of $2 million worth of product to the non-profit organization. Student groups from the Public Relations Student Society of America and the American Marketing. Association were selected to develop an educational campaign that would raise the awareness of water conservation in their communities – for homeowners and students on campus. Students were judged on the creativity of their campaigns, such as research on the water issues in their respective communities, developing partnerships with local water utilities and like-minded organizations, along with promotional activities and events to engage the public. Kohler selected three universities from each student organization. The winners were: PRSSA: • Syracuse University • University of Cincinnati • Ohio State University. AMA: • University of Wisconsin-Whitewater • Penn State University • University of Pennsylvania. More than 20 universities participated in the competition. The winning chapters were awarded with water-saving products to help their campuses significantly reduce water use. Students also received showerheads that use 30 percent less water than standard showerheads. Some of the creative entries to help build awareness of SaveWaterAmerica included partnerships with UNICEF, campus-wide events to sell discounted Kohler plumbing products, and social media campaigns aimed at students to get involved with the world’s looming freshwater crisis. Kohler, along with help from the students, is encouraging water-savvy homeowners to log on to SaveWaterAmerica.com and help Habitat for Humanity reach the $2 million mark. Nearly every state has participated in the program, and those interested in supporting the program can view videos, become a fan on Facebook, and follow Twitter updates on the site. STERLING ACCORD SEATED SHOWER OFFERS FUNCTION, COMFORT AND FLEXIBILITY

June 25, 2010

Speaking to the needs of homeowners of all ages and abilities, Sterling recently introduced the new Accord seated shower at the 2010 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show. The Accord seated shower, the newest addition to the STERLING Accord family of bath/shower units, is a highly functional, affordable and aesthetically pleasing product. The geometric back wall design and block style side walls are visually appealing and flawlessly integrate seams into the overall shower design. As an additional comfort element, the curved back wall maximizes the available showering space and creates a sense of openness. Featuring a seat that is both movable and removable, the Accord seated shower allows for safety and flexibility in the bathing space. The user is able to position the seat on either side of the shower, or remove it altogether. When positioned at either side of the shower, the seat fits snugly into place and allows the bather to rest his/her back against the side wall. The seat is designed at a comfortable sitting and transfer height of 17 1/2 inches, and provides more seating area than others in the industry. Within arm’s reach of the seat are deep, semi-hidden shelves that allow for ample storage of up to twice as many bathing items as the average shower. The continuous arch of the back wall aids in partially concealing the shelving space to reduce visual clutter and give the shower a clean look. Designed to be placed in standard-sized alcove spaces, the Accord seated shower is available in both 48-by-36 inch and 60-by-36 inch models, with or without backer kits. Additionally, the shower is available with optional grab bars – large central and smaller side bars – to aid in entering and exiting, as well as sitting down and standing up from the seat. Designed with a similar curvature as the shower, these grab bars are sturdy and blend well into the overall style of the showering space. Staying true to the ease of installation that professionals and serious DIYers have come to expect of Sterling brand plumbing products, the new Accord seated shower is made of durable and proprietary Vikrell® material and utilizes Sterling’s “click-together”, caulkless system to ease the task of installation. The multi-piece bath/shower features a single pivot point installation system making it a snap to interlock the walls with the base.  The wall clips, in turn, provide an audible click that notifies the installer that the walls have been installed in the proper position – one that is snug and water-tight. Moreover, because the Accord seated shower is made of lightweight yet durable Vikrell components, one installer is all that is needed to carry these components around the job site and easily move them into place during any phase of construction – thereby saving time and money. The STERLING Accord seated shower is available in three colors – White, KOHLER® Almond and KOHLER Biscuit – with the color molded into the product. Vikrell material offers exceptional durability and is resistant to scratching and staining, as well as chipping, cracking and peeling. For additional information on the STERLING Accord seated shower or any other products, call 1-800-STERLING, or visit the STERLING Web site at SterlingPlumbing.com. Sterling is a division of Kohler Co. and partners with trade professionals and do-it-yourself homeowners by providing kitchen and bath products that exemplify exceptional value, enduring design and functional innovation.  STERLING products include bathing and showering fixtures, kitchen sinks and lavatories made from exclusive Vikrell® material; stainless steel sinks; shower doors, and vitreous china toilets and lavatories.

ALL KOHLER RESIDENTIAL FAUCETS COMPLIANT NEW LOW-LEAD STANDARD

March 9, 2010

No compromise on quality, design for customers. Kohler Co., 2008 and 2009 WaterSense Partner of the Year, has announced all of its residential bathroom and kitchen faucets have been converted for compliance with California legislation AB1953 and Vermont’s bill number S.015 in regard to lead content in faucets that are used for drinking water. “Kohler is committed to a proactive approach when it comes to legislation that changes the plumbing industry, and this conversion was no exception,” said Rick Reles, vice president of global faucets at Kohler Co. “Kohler thanks all of its customers for their support during this transition, and rest-assured, Kohler faucets continue to offer a singular level of quality for design and performance.”  To ensure compliance, each residential faucet is certified by an independent third party organization. The certification organization, NSF International, the public health and safety company, verifies all faucets meet the new requirements. Kohler anticipates other states, and possibly Canada, may follow the actions of California and Vermont. That said, each and every residential faucet shipped from Kohler meets the new requirements, not just those sent to Vermont and California. This strategy is part of an ongoing effort to stay on the leading edge of design and technology, and offer customers the high level of quality they’ve come to expect from Kohler, added Reles. Over the past 18 months, customers, distributors and partners have been contacted about this transition over the past 18 months, and Kohler has provided updates on the product selection and low-lead conversion to provide visual confirmation its plumbing allies are informed about the lead issue, and equipped with the appropriate product. A 1/2-inch silver decal on each faucet box ensures customers that their faucet has been inspected and meets the new low-lead requirements. Cold Weather Plumbers Delight

January 13, 2010

The extreme cold temperatures experienced across America in the past week have caused water pipes and plumbing within some homes and businesses to freeze or burst. Many local water companies have been swamped with calls from customers who discover busted pipes. Homeowners should be aware how and where to shut the water off so the leak does not create major emergency damage and flood a residence. According to Roger Standish, A-1 Plumbing Supply, you should immediately call a plumber when you discover frozen pipes condition, the sooner a professional gets to the problem the better. Many plumbers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but in some cases you may be placed on a waiting list for service. Replacing damaged plumbing is expensive and time consuming, with some plumbers cautioning that some pipe damage may be hidden and may not fail until spring. Cold weather failures are placing a burden on homeowners on a fixed income who did not expect frozen pipes, but may seek reimbursement under homeowner insurance. On a nationwide basis, plumbers have been working day and nite to restore service to homeowners and many plumbers have delighted on the new source of revenue Mother Nature has provided, even a slight wind chill can increase the chance of a freeze.

The frozen pipe problem is compounded when heating systems fail. Always have your heating system inspected before the heating season begins. If using oil make sure you have pleanty of fuel. Winter electrical outages are common and an emergency generator may power heating systems until electric service is restored, preventing expensive plumbing damage. ‘Historically, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when it comes to plumbing and heating’, stated Roger Standish of the A-1 Plumbing Supply, www.a1ly.com a major plumbing parts and plumbing supply one stop warehouse distribution center for American Standard, Kohler, Eljer, Moen, Weil-McLain. Standish continued ‘before a freeze, insulate pipes on exterior walls, leave cabinet doors under sinks open to allow warm air access to the pipes, and let a bathroom faucet run slightly to keep the water supply flowing’. Roger Standish concluded with some realistic wisdom, ‘Even in Hard Times Things Need to Be Fixed’,
